The Process/Y Broses is an ongoing collaboration between Carlota Sousa Nóbrega and Esyllt Lewis, rooted in our shared curiosity about the act and performativity of gwaith celf*.
Through this collaboration, we devised a set of nine steps that guide us through the process of making work. These steps are simple, repeatable, and deliberately open-ended, designed to be revisited each time we come together. By performing them, we’ve been testing the boundaries between making and outcome, exploring o processo* of making art as artwork in itself.
After three years of doing it in our own time, in intimate face-to-face spaces, we were keen to open it out
like an envelope for other people to try it with us but this time, digitally. We wanted it to be available to all to watch without it feeling intrusive, and we wanted to maintain a liveness and spontaneity which can be hard to achieve in a digital space. It was a challenge but also a joy - the biggest of them being the encounter with people we would never have done The Process with had it been irl.
This experiment produced amazing responses and conversations and allowed us to be more open and inquisitive. Doing The Process with a very small number of people online did create an intimate and open environment for producing work and sharing ideas, like a winter-time nook from pixels.
